ABOUT US
ERIS is a small group of professionals who use research and Precision Teaching charting to further develop interventions that help students rapidly become fluent readers despite labels or limitations. Our work is devoted to creating new methods of collaboration and more powerful tools for increasing equity in reading. Extending these tools to public schools and working with our participating teachers and students will be extremely significant, as dissemination of this work can solve the serious problems that continue to plague USA education. Lack of equity results from the exclusion caused by illiteracy, and we want to share these powerful solutions.

EDUCATIONAL CONSULTING
A Path to Equity
We wish to demonstrate that a teaching staff within a public school can obtain outstanding results in helping their grade 3-8 students to attain grade level or better reading skills despite their age. Our major questions involve finding methods to teach and support the teaching staff in the use of these relatively unknown methods. Because we have previously trained teachers in a variety of classrooms and schools, as well as in learning centers, we assume that with careful instruction and practice teachers will not only learn these methods but embrace them as they rapidly improve the immediate and long-term outcomes of their students.
NEW READING MATERIALS
A Scientific Approach
We have built upon a Direct Instruction foundation pioneered by Science Research Associates and added a strong, immediate method to assess an individual student’s improvement. The sensitive nature of the charting that we do allows student and teacher to be closely linked and provides information for daily decision making. This pioneering work combines the Science of Reading with the Science of Learning. The essence of this approach is to break all the critical elements taught into the smallest possible movements and discriminations, then to build those up while charting each of these changes. While direct instruction remains a key principle of this approach, the other key is developing frequency Aims for each element that makes up a complex skill.
